Pro-Palestinian ads at Metro-North stations spark alarm from Jewish leaders

“This is anti-Semitic because when people think of Jews they think of the Jewish state,” said Dovid Efune, editor of the Manhattan-based Jewish newspaper, The Algemeiner. “Jews have seen this happen so many times. It always starts with messaging that says Jews are committing a crime.”

Oh boo fucking hoo. Israel is a piece of shit, and this ad is trying to point it out. Get over yourselves.

No no, it always starts with messaging that WRONGLY INSINUATES that Jews are to blame for societal ills to which they have NO CONNECTION, purely because they are Jewish. In this case, certain people who happen to be Jewish ARE committing crimes - many, many crimes, actually, if you ask, I don’t know, the UN - and should be CALLED OUT FOR IT. Discussing Israel the same way we would discuss any other country that has persistently, violently broken international laws for 60 odd years is NOT ANTISEMITISM, it’s just RESPONSIBLE. Using anti-Semitism, a sentiment with a very real and horrible history, something that’s genuinely present in the lives of some people - as a cheap cover-up for legitimate offenses is a low, low, low blow. Isn’t it obvious?
