it’s victory over japan day, everybody!
Q: It’s the anniversary of one of the most devastating and, debatably, one of the most unnecessary military events in human history, the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of WWII. Do we:
- a. celebrate it with a day off from work
- b. celebrate it with a day off from work, or
- c. celebrate it with a day off from work?
Today’s “what the actual fuck?” moment is brought to you by the state of Rhode Island, my home and native land and the only state to respond to this question with “all of the above!” Yes, the great Ocean State stands alone in recognizing “VJ Day” as an official holiday which, while superficially hilarious, is actually pretty appalling. Get with it, RI.
Maybe we can swap VJ Day for gay marriage? Anyone? Anyone?
